Oyo claims to be largest brand in China
Oyo Hotels & Homes has angrily denied reports it has been laying off up to 1,000 staff in China, now saying it is the largest single hotel brand in the country.
"The presumption of any letting go is wrong, where regular monthly performance reviews are being twisted and reported out of context. Especially since we just announced an investment of US$100 million in China today, towards talent, customer experience, and quality and system improvements," an Oyo spokesman said.
It accused ‘miscreants’ of spreading false rumours, although it did say a small number of workers were let go for ‘underperforming.’
The company also announced the appointment of Zhu Lei as China chief revenue officer.
He will be responsible for driving occupancy across Oyo hotels in the country as well as overseeing offline sales and OTA channels.
Oyo says it has expanded its China presence to over 337 cities and 500,000 rooms
"The company has allocated approximately US$100 million out of the $600 million earlier committed to being invested in China, towards quality and system improvements and customer service in the next two years," said Oyo China COO Sam Shih.
