Oyo hotel workers arrested for hidden camera blackmail plot
Two Oyo hotel employees in India were arrested for attempting to blackmail a guest over hotel room hidden camera footage.
A worker at the OYO Sai Arya Residency in Napally, Bhubaneswar allegedly secretly filmed a female guest and her partner and then contacted her to extort money.
He demanded INR50,000 or threatened to post the footage online.
A deal for INR20,000 was made and a meeting was set up.
The woman reportedly told friends, who followed her to the meeting point and overpowered the hotel employee.
He was then turned over to the police.
A second employee was later detained.
Oyo Hotels & Homes issued a statement in response: "Any act of misconduct by any of our partner hotels or staff thereat falls under the zero-tolerance zone for us. We would like to share that there was no hidden camera found at the hotel."
"We have already initiated action against the errant staff member and he has been suspended with immediate effect. We are in touch with the guest and are providing all possible assistance. We stand ready to support the law enforcement authorities in their investigation."
