With less than 11 weeks to go until Christmas, we are well and truly geared up for the winter months. Embrace the chill outside and make time to warm up with a cuppa and read this week’s Siren social media round up…

Airline passengers want more mobile based offerings to reduce stress levels during travel, according to new industry research. The 2012 SITA Air Transport World Passenger Self-Service Survey found that over 70% of air travellers now carry smart phones, increasing the need for self-boarding and instant flight information on the go – proof that the future of travel is mobile.

The Cape Town tourist board has launched an innovative ‘world class social media app’ where Facebook users can send their ‘profile’ on holiday there without stepping foot on a plane. Those who sign themselves up for a five-day virtual visit will be able to choose their own unique itineraries and will be in with a chance of winning a real holiday to the destination.

Prime Minister David Cameron ‘@David_Cameron’ has ranked up over 100,000 followers on Twitter after only signing up at the weekend. His inaugural tweet claimed that there "won’t be too many tweets" – we’ll hold you to that David…

Facebook has hit the headlines again this week by trialling ‘like’ and ‘collect’ buttons in the US as part of its push towards e-commerce. Critics have said that the new features which allow users to flag images of items they want from online retail catalogues, draws inspiration from Pinterest.

There really is nothing like a good hug…Now Facebook users State-side can benefit from the ‘Like-A-Hug’ jacket thanks to student inventor Melissa Kit Chow.
