Paradise island facing cyclone danger
Mauritius: People battening down the hatches as storm approaches
Residents and tourists on the island of Mauritius are battening down the hatches as a tropical cyclone is forecast to hit the island.
Cyclone Gerry was last reported to be around 150 miles northwest of the Indian Ocean island, and moving slowly but surely towards Mauritius.
The Mauritius Meteorological Service said in a statement: “On this trajectory Gerry is becoming a threat to Mauritius and a cyclone warning class one is in force.”
While class one is the lowest level of warning on a scale of one to four, residents are being urged to take precautions including stocking up on food and spare clothing.
