Park Hotel Amsterdam awarded Gold in The Netherlands

Green Globe congratulates Park Hotel Amsterdam on being awarded Gold Status marking five years of continuous certification.

Set in a traditional canal house with a modern annexe, the upscale Park Hotel Amsterdam features a gallery, a lounge that serves light bites and drinks, a refined Pan Asian restaurant and gym.

Improvements in best practices continue to be made in all departments. Training in sustainability is offered to staff members and Green Globe dedicated ambassadors are represented in various sections of the hotel. In addition, to broaden cultural understanding amongst approximately fifty different nationalities working at Park Hotel Amsterdam, a special Staff to Staff dinner is organised quarterly. Staff members cook meals that reflect their native country’s culinary uniqueness which is then shared with fellow employees.

Resource management remains an important priority at the hotel with energy and water saving measures constantly being upgraded. Energy-efficient heating and cooling is managed by a BMS in all areas except for guest rooms. A heat recovery system is used in the lobby, meeting rooms, foyers and restaurant and specific temperature ranges are set to minimize energy consumption. In the last year twenty-nine motion sensors that regulate lighting have been installed in back of house areas. To conserve water dual flush buttons have been fitted on public toilets and in new hotel rooms. Other toilets in rooms without dual systems have been adapted to use a maximum of six litres per flush and low flow faucets have also been installed.

Park Hotel Amsterdam assists economic development by purchasing local products. This year new cocktail trays were introduced that offer spirits such as gin, vodka and Jenever from Amsterdam. Jenever is a juniper flavoured national and traditional Dutch liquor. A new collaboration with the Prael brewery also began. The Prael is renown for brewing excellent beers and the company also provides employment in a safe, guided environment for people with mental disorders. The Hemelswater- Code Blond, a Prael beer brewed with rainwater from Amsterdam is now available in minibars. Delicious salted nuts are also sourced from Gotjé, located in the Jordaan neighbourhood of the city.

Significant changes have been made to reduce waste volume throughout the property. Paper-printed wifi codes for guests attending meetings are no longer offered except when specifically requested. And room order pizzas previously delivered in cardboard boxes are now served on reusable black stone plates instead. Furthermore, Nespresso capsules are returned for recycling rather than ending up as landfill.
