Passengers are voting for Tiger’s low fares with their wallets
Tiger Airways announced today that many thousands of its low air fares had been sold, despite competitors attempting to flood the market with ‘gimmicky’ one-off, short term promotions.
Tiger’s low fares on the seven domestic routes announced so far – between Melbourne and Perth, Darwin, Gold Coast, Rockhampton, Mackay, Launceston and Alice Springs, had attracted tens of thousands of Australian consumers, and they say that there’s more to come.
Tiger Airways CEO Tony Davis said, “Tiger Airways owes the Australian public a big vote of thanks for supporting the airline.” “There has been an amazing reaction so far to our launch and we are looking forward to expanding our current network to bring even more low fares to more routes.”
He urged Australian consumers to book early to avoid disappointment particularly through the peak holiday periods as the lowest fares are selling fast.
Mr. Davis said Australian airlines are not used to competition from true low fare airlines such as Tiger Airways, adding, “Australian consumers have been paying unbelievably high fares and can see through the empty rhetoric and gimmicks offered up by our competitor’s spokespersons.” “But the rhetoric used by our competitors in the media does not match their ticket pricing.”
“The only reason our competitors have dropped their fares from the high levels consumers have been paying is that Tiger is leading the market – they are followers, dragged into lowering fares by genuine competition.”
Mr. Davis said our message is clear, don’t make a booking without checking the Tiger Airways website first.
