United States: Northwest Airlines man faces 15 years in jail if convicted

The struggle facing airport security guards was illustrated yesterday when it was revealed a pilot for Northwest Airlines had a loaded gun in his luggage. According to the online news provider Ananova, the pilot was discovered at New York’s La Guardia airport and is now facing three charges of criminal possession of a weapon. Airport authorities say the gun was discovered by security guards when he was walking through a terminal used specifically for the screening of passengers’ and crew’s luggage. While the pilot had a licence to carry the semi-automatic pistol in his destination of Detroit, Michigan, he could now face 15 years in prison if he is convicted. Northwest has yet to take any action against the pilot.
