Plane makes emergency landing after walls crack
An American Airlines flight made an emergency landing after the cabin wall panels cracked open.
Flight 2293 returned to San Francisco airport an hour into its flight to Dallas because of a possible blown air duct.
The Boeing 757 landed safely and none of the 184 passengers and six crew members was hurt.
Aviation experts said the wall panels are not part of the aicraft’s structure and the cracks would not have presented any risk. The plane did not lose pressure and oxygen masks weren’t deployed.
Passengers reported a violently shake and loud popping noises as the aircraft took off, but they said the flight crew kept everyone calm and assured them the panels were only cosmetic.
The Federal Aviation Administration said it would work with the airline to determine the plane’s problem and correct it before it flies again.
Another aircraft was sent to fly the passengers to Dallas.
