Portugal strikes called off at the last minute

Sunday, 29 Jun, 2012 0

Portuguese air traffic controllers have called off their five-day strike at the last minute.

The walk-out, due to start today, was cancelled yesterday after the Portuguese government agreed to talks with the country’s NAV Workers’ Committee.

The air traffic controllers had threatened the strike in protest against cuts implemented as part of the country’s austerity measures.

TAP Air Portugal said it had begun changing its schedules in light of the strike threat but would now try to reinstate its regular operation as much as possible.

Easyjet said all flights to/from Portugal will now operate as normal and passengers who had been warned about possible changes to their flights should disregard this information.

Ryanair flights will operate as scheduled.
