Premier Cottages launches new Accessibility Scheme to make UK cottage holidays more inclusive
Premier Cottages, a luxury self-catering collection of UK properties, has launched a comprehensive Accessibility Scheme designed to help guests with a wide range of access needs to help find the perfect holiday property.
The scheme has been developed using the robust framework of VisitEngland’s new accessibility questionnaire. Premier Cottages’ scheme goes further than most travel brands, offering detailed, transparent information across seven accessibility categories to ensure guests can book with confidence.
Premier Cottages Accessible Cottages Collection spans the UK’s most beautiful destinations and features wheelchair-friendly cottages, step-free properties, and holiday homes adapted for guests with reduced mobility, visual or hearing impairments.
To qualify, cottage owners must:
- Complete the Key Accessibility Features Questionnaire, outlining the property’s main access details and facilities
- Self-assess which categories their property meets, from Reduced Mobility through to Independent Wheelchair Use and Visual or Hearing Impairments.
- Commit to the Premier Cottages Accessibility Commitment, ensuring information is accurate, up to date, and easily available to prospective guests.
Each participating property includes a downloadable copy of its questionnaire in the listing’s “About & Contact” section, with further detail available in the owner’s access guide. Guests can also use Premier Cottages’ website filters to search by accessibility category, helping them quickly find properties that meet their individual needs.
Recognizing that many guests with accessibility needs are not always the ones making the booking initially, Premier Cottages has introduced a 14-day cancellation period for added peace of mind. When booked on the Premier Cottages website, if a booked property proves unsuitable for their specific accessibility requirements, guests can cancel within 14 days of placing the booking and receive a full refund of the amount paid to the cottage owner.
Announcing the Accessibility Scheme launch, Dylan Edwards, Marketing Director at Premier Cottages said: “We’re committed to making UK cottage holidays more inclusive and accessible. By creating a transparent, guest-focused scheme, we’re helping travelers with specific needs find properties that genuinely work for them, while supporting owners to showcase their accessibility features clearly and honestly.”
The seven accessibility categories
Each property in the scheme meets at least one of the following categories:
- Reduced Mobility
- Assisted/Partial Wheelchair User
- Independent Wheelchair User
- Visual Impairment
- Visual Impairment [Enhanced]
- Hearing Impairment
- Hearing Impairment [Enhanced]
Guests are encouraged to review the full questionnaire and contact property owners directly to confirm suitability before booking.
