Punjab Tourism to Host the First Ever Pakistan Travel Trade Tourism Fair
In a TravelMole global exclusive, Thomas E King on location in Lahore, Pakistan has been advised by the Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab that they will host the first-ever country wide travel trade tourism conference and fair in Lahore, next month.
Organised by the Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab (TDCP), the Pakistan Tourism Fair will be held in the new purpose-built Expo Centre, Fortress Stadium, Lahore from January 15 – 21, 2007.
More than 200 tour operators, hoteliers, airline executives and other professionals in Pakistan’s burgeoning tourism industry are expected to attend the landmark event including some 60 delegates from 23 foreign countries including Australia, said Mrs. Shazia Akram, General Manager, Administration, TDCP.
A number of incentives are being offered to tour operators in Australia and New Zealand who would like to attend the Pakistan Tourism Fair, she said.
While the 30% discount offered on Pakistan International Airlines may not be a substantial incentive as the carrier is offline in both Australia and New Zealand the TDCP is offering substantial ground arrangements including all accommodation, meals and transfers during the time delegates are in Lahore.
A number of special events are planned for all delegates including an official welcome function hosted by TDCP’s Managing Director, Arshad Bhatti, a personalised city tour of Mughal and British Colonial Lahore, a visit to the Pakistan/India border at Wagha for the picturesque evening flag lowering ceremony, various cultural programs and a keynote conference on Pakistan and Punjab tourism developments inaugurated by the Secretary of Tourism, Government of Punjab.
Formed in 1987, the Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab has been highly active in introducing new means of tourism promotion to the cultural rich state of Punjab, in particular and Pakistan, in general. The tourism conference and fair is the biggest tourism event ever organised by the TDCP.
Currently, Pakistan receives about 800,000 foreign visitors annually and last year some 9,000 Australians visited the country, with the figure expected to top the 10,000 mark this year.
Tourist arrivals are expected to rise as the central government is now taking a more innovative approach to the promotion of tourism especially through its targeted Visit Pakistan Year 2007 campaign which was launched in mid December in Islamabad.
