Qantas launching Sapporo flights
Qantas is adding another Japan route in time for the peak ski season.
It is launching direct seasonal flights between Sydney and Sapporo from December 16, 2019 through March 28, 2020.
It will fly three times per week to Sapporo’s New Chitose Airport on upgraded Airbus A330 aircraft.
"Travel between Australia and Japan is booming. These new flights make it easier for Australians to reach Hokkaido’s popular ski resorts like Niseko and Rusutsu," said Qantas International Acting CEO Naren Kumar.
It becomes Qantas’ fifth route to Japan and adds 10,000 seats to the Japan market.
Kumar says the number of Australians travelling to Japan has doubled in five years to nearly 500,000 in 2018.
"Domestic connections with Jetstar Japan will also open up new options for customers who want to travel beyond the Hokkaido region for both business and leisure," Kumar added.
Qantas also serves Tokyo Haneda and Osaka from Sydney, as well as to Tokyo Narita from Melbourne and Brisbane.
