Qantas passengers face threat of industrial action
Qantas passengers face possible flight delays and cancellations after the airline’s maintenance engineers yesterday voted 80% to strike.
They have up to 30 days to begin industrial action, but their union has already promised there will be no walk-outs before or during the busy Easter period.
The Australian Licensed Aircraft Engineers Association said it hoped yesterday’s ballot for strikes will prompt the airline to engage in more "fair-dinkum discussion" over their members calls for higher pay and job security, said the Herald Sun newspaper in Australia.
Pilots, baggage handlers and refuellers are also threatening to strike over job security provisions, according to the paper.
