Qantas pilot saves disaster
A report from Adelaide says that a pilot had only seconds to act when he saw a hang glider in his path near the Adelaide Hills.
It appears that Qantas flight QF761 was about to start its final descent into Adelaide near Mt Pleasant early on February 17, when the pilot saw the hang glider in the plane’s flight path, giving the pilot reportedly only 15 seconds to act.
He prepared to disconnect auto pilot, banked to the right and avoided the hang glider by about only 30m.
The incident was reported to the Civil Aviation Safety Authority and the Australian Transport Safety Bureau.
Well done to the Qantas pilot, that’s what all that training is for and why they are worth every penny – it must have been a much bigger shock for the hanglider pilot though!
