Australia flag carrier Qantas Airways will pay out around $74 million to settle the class action Covid Refunds lawsuit.
The class action alleges the airline misled thousands of customers and didn’t provide ticket refunds for flights cancelled between 2020 and 2022.
Qantas only provided flight credits instead of refunds.
“Under the terms of the settlement agreement, Qantas has agreed to pay A$105 million, with no admission of liability,” it said.
The settlement will need court approval first.
Qantas had ‘unlawfully benefited from customers by holding for years a very significant amount of customer funds that ought to have been refunded,’ the law firm which brought the suit said.
In the coming weeks, the court will share details on how customers can claim their refunds, Echo Law said.
