Qatar kicks off with FC Barcelona
Qatar Airways will be the shirt sponsor of Spanish football giants FC Barcelona from the start of the 2013/14 season.
The three-year agreement takes effect July 1 and marks the first time the airline has sponsored a major soccer club.
Qatar Airways chief executive Ali Al Baker said at the sponsorship announcement: “Sport is a key pillar of our growth strategy.
“Qatar Airways has been actively developing its sports strategy, tying up with organisations in Qatar and overseas that match our aspirations – and FC Barcelona is an example of an institution that clearly fits in with our strategy.”
The airline will create added value flight and holiday packages for fans globally, as well as a host of community programmes.
