Questions raised over theme park’s response after man downs in pool

Saturday, 22 Aug, 2016 0
An adult male died after drowning at a Pacific Northwest theme park, with questions being raised over lifeguards’ response to the tragedy.

The man in his 30s was found at the bottom of an activity pool at Wild Waves Theme Park in Federal Way, WA and never regained consciousness.

Witnesses described the scene as ‘chaotic’ and said park lifeguards were slow to react and ill-equipped.

CPR was performed but they were unable to save the man, an official from South King Fire and Rescue said.

The man was described as ‘heavy set’ and lifeguards struggled for some time to lift him out of the water.

Witness Jonathon Harkovitch told KOMO News the response was ‘uncoordinated and chaotic.’

The theme park said the activity pool is recommended only for strong swimmers and has started an investigation.
