Red Bull may roar again

The Red Bull Air Race is expected to take off again in 2014, according to the event’s website.

A team is working on securing a fixed calendar for the race, which drew huge crowds to cities across the world before being mothballed.

Abu Dhabi is under consideration as a host for one of the legs of the air races, that took place in New York, Rio de Janeiro, Barcelona, Windsor (Canada) and Perth in Australia.

A spokesman for Abu Dhabi’s Tourism and Culture Authority said the authority had been approached by the Red Bull Air Race organisers and were currently undertaking necessary due diligence to determine the likely benefits for the emirate before committing to any involvement.

Abu Dhabi has hosted the two-day race six times since 2005.

Purpose-built single-seater planes are flown through an obstacle course at speeds of up to 370 kph.
