Reno resort undergoing $1.8 billion transformation
There’s a flurry of activities to enhance the Reno/Lake Tahoe area’s appeal to conventions and meeting-goers — including a $1.8 billion transformation of The Grand Sierra Resort.
It will have 11 floors of luxury hotel space on a 145-acre property. The casino is also being upgraded.
The Sierra already has 10 restaurants, live nightly entertainment, a shopping mall, a family fun center and a 50-lane bowling alley.
With its own expansion, the Reno-Sparks Convention Center now has more than a half-million square feet of exhibition and convention space.
Other new projects:
- A $300 million expansion at the Peppermill Hotel Casino is bringing the hotel to 1,631-rooms with 62,000 square feet of convention space. That’s set to be completed this year.
- The Atlantis Casino Resort this year broke ground on a $50 million expansion that will more than double the current 27,000 square feet of convention and ballroom space.
- The proposed Mt. Rose Station Casino will have 500-rooms with a 150,000 square foot Bass Pro Shop.
- There’s also a 127-room, all-suite Hyatt Place Hotel in the planning stages at the Reno-Tahoe International Airport.
