Researchers come together for climate change and tourism report

Sunday, 29 Nov, 2007 0

A joint report produced by Sustainable Tourism CRC through two of its leading research centres, investigates the current state of play between climate change and the Australian tourism industry.

Two scoping studies form the basis of the report, Climate Change and Australian Tourism produced by the Australian Regional Tourism Research Centre (ARTRC) and Climate Change Policies and Australian Tourism produced by the Centre for Tourism Economics and Policy Research (CTEPR).

Together the studies outline current issues facing the industry from an economic, government policy, research and planning position.

Both studies propose solutions to those issues, identify areas where benefits could be gained and importantly recommend a path forward.

The CTEPR scoping study focuses on the economics of climate change and tourism, highlighting those key connections, the costs involved and the costs of adaptation.

The study discusses the tough questions on how to measure tourism’s carbon footprint as well as how to estimate the costs of implementing an emissions trading scheme (ETS).
