Residents flee Santorini as seismic activity continues

Thousands of residents have fled the famed holiday island of Santorini as seismic tremors continue to rattle the region.
Greek broadcaster ERT says in excess of 6,000 people have left the island in the last couple of days, seeking refuge in Athens.
Hundreds more were at the port early on Tuesday waiting to board ferries for Athens.
Another tremor measuring 4.8 mag was recorded this morning, one of the largest recorded so far since the period of seismic activity began before the weekend.
In just three days, more than 500 tremors with a magnitude of at least 3.0 have been felt.
The country’s Earthquake Planning and Protection Organization says the heightened seismic activity may continue for several days or even weeks, but doesn’t mean a big quake is inevitable.
Additional flights from Athens have been scheduled to help people leave the island.
