Riding on Brokeback
The destination of Alberta is riding higher these days because it was the location of the popular film, “Brokeback Mountain.”
Said Tina Alford, manager of location and marketing resources for Alberta Film:
“Since its showing in early December, we’ve had dozens of calls per week — from tourists to film-related.” Many callers want to know where specific scenes were shot.
Many of the callers are from the US. But the movie is now being shown around the world and even wider interest is expected.
A majority of the film about a homosexual relationship between two cowboys was shot near Upper Kananaskis Lake, which is accessible to visitors. But Alberta’s ruggedness was the backdrop for various areas.
The city of Calgary, which is best known for its 10-day Calgary Stampede, was also featured in the movie.
Some travelers are designing trips around places seen in the film, said tourist officials.
