Rogue wave injures dozens at China water park
A freak accident at a Chinese water park which injured dozens was the result of faulty equipment.
A huge wave enveloped the ‘tsunami pool’ attraction at Yulong Shuiyun Water Amusement Park in Longjing sending 44 people to hospital.
A park worker told local media an ‘accidental breakdown in machinery’ was the cause and not an operator error as was previously claimed on social media.
"Online rumours say the worker wrongly operated the controls but in reality it was a problem with the machinery," the worker was quoted as saying.
Five people were still in hospital after the weekend recovering from injuries which included fractured bones.
Guests waiting for the usually gentle wave were thrown into the air by the fast moving torrent and landed on hard concrete outside the pool.
All guests still receiving treatment are expected to make a full recovery.
The pool remained closed over the weekend while checks were carried out but is expected to reopen in the coming days.
