A small Australian online business, Rome2Rio.com, has beaten out a strong field including some of the world’s largest websites to win the TRAVELtech GlobalCollect Website of the Year for 2013.

Rome2Rio.com is a multi-modal search engine – which displays air, rail, bus and ferry transport options – that operates both a B2B and B2C business model.

The judges were most impressed by the innovative approach from this Melbourne based business, which at last count employed five staff.

Rome2Rio co-founder Michael Cameron said: "It’s a very much unexpected but thrilling win."

The TRAVELtech GlobalCollect Web Awards were open to websites which are either based in Australia or have staff, sales or tech, employed here.

The Top Ten websites were:

TripAdvisor.com.au
Booking.com
LonelyPlanet.com
travel.virginaustralia.com
FlightFox.com
VroomVroomVroom.com.au
