Royal Caribbean cancels South America sailings

A series of South America cruises in winter 2009-10 have been cancelled by Royal Caribbean International.

Instead, the ship Radiance of the Seas is being redeployed to run an extended season of Mexican Riviera itineraries from San Diego.

Passengers booked on the ship’s cancelled South America cruises between November 21, 2009 and March 7, 2010 will be offered the option to rebook on similar cruises this winter.

The dates available are between from November 23 and February 1, 2009 and between February 28 and April 26, subject to availability and at the prevailing rate.

Rebooking passengers will receive onboard credit of $200 per standard cabin and $400 per suite.

“All guests and travel agent partners with affected bookings are being contacted by Royal Caribbean International and all bookings for the affected sailings will be immediately cancelled,” the company said.

The change means that Radiance of the Seas will extend its season from San Diego, offering a total of 24 Mexican Riviera sailings, ranging from four- to 12-night itineraries, and two West Coast cruises, a nine- and a 10-night itinerary.

Radiance of the Seas will increase the total number of San Diego sailings from September 2009 until May 2010 with 10 long cruises to the Mexican Riviera. These nine- to 11-night itineraries are in addition to 12 short cruises – four- and five-night itineraries – announced earlier this year.

Passengers can also choose an additional 12-night cruise departing on December 21, 2009, when they will celebrate Christmas and New Year on board, or a 13th five-night short cruise, sailing on May 3, 2010.

Ports of call on the Mexican Riviera cruises include: Acapulco, Cabo San Lucas, Ensenada, Huatulco, Ixtapa (Zihuatanejo), Manzanillo, Mazatlan, and Puerto Vallarta.

Radiance of the Seas’ call at Manzanillo on Thanksgiving Day 2009 will mark the line’s first return to the port since 1999.

The two West Coast cruises sail to Vancouver on January 22, 2010 for 10 nights, and in reverse on March 2, 2010 for nine nights. Each sailing includes calls at Catalina Island and an overnight in San Francisco; Astoria, Oregon; Seattle and Victoria, British Columbia.
