Royal Caribbean International has added a layer of UK-based senior management.
Former Avis Europe EMEA commercial vice-president Susan Hooper has been recruited by the US cruise line in the role of senior vice-president, managing director EMEA.
She replaces former senior vice-president international Gary Bruton, who retired from his post at the company’s Miami headquarters earlier this year.
Patrick Ryan, who reports to Ms Hooper, remains as managing director European sales and marketing. They will both be based at the company’s European base in Weybridge, Surrey.
Although she has no cruise line background, Ms Hooper was responsible for overseeing global and regional sales, brand marketing, corporate strategy, e-commerce, pricing, revenue and yield management and customer-contact centres for Avis Europe.
Previously she held senior roles with PepsicCo, Frito-Lay International and global consulting firm McKinsey & Company.
Ms Hooper reports to Royal Caribbean president and chief operating officer Jack Williams, who said: “Susan brings immense talent and outstanding experience in building and expanding high-performing global enterprises across the burgeoning markets of Europe. Her background makes her the ideal individual to oversee our expansion within these markets.”
Royal Caribbean is to operate its first dedicated series of cruises from Southampton next summer and plans to introduce the world’s largest cruise ship, the Ultravoyager, in 2006.
