Russia reportedly ‘downed Azerbaijan Airlines flight’
The cause of the Azerbaijan Airlines crash is likely down to Russia involvement, an unverified preliminary report suggests.
Leaders in Russia, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan are currently staying tight lipped over who is responsible.
However, some aviation experts say Russia was likely responsible.
They are pinning the blame on Russian air defense fire.
The plane crashed in Kazakhstan killing 38 people.
There were 29 survivors.
It is still unclear why the plane diverted to Aktau in Kazakhstan.
It was scheduled to land in Grozny.
Azerbaijan held a day of mourning on Thursday.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said it is too soon to speculate on the cause of the crash, but said bad weather forced the plane to divert.
“The information provided to me is that the plane changed its course between Baku and Grozny due to worsening weather conditions.”
However, Russia’s civil aviation regulator claims the plane diverted due to a bird strike.
One Azerbaijan lawmaker has blamed Russia for the crash.
Rasim Musabekov claims the plane was fired on by Russia.
Also, the Wall Street Journey reports Azerbaijan’s preliminary investigation concluded the plane was hit by a Russian missile.
The plane allegedly had its GPS signal jammed prior to the crash
Russia has warned the media against what it calls unverified ‘hypotheses.’
