Ryanair has joined the January flight cuts bandwagon by offering one million seats for £2.50.
The budget carrier is making the offer available to book until midnight on Sunday (January 11) for travel this month and in February and March.
The half-price seats cover more than 300 routes.
A spokesman said: "Our New Year price war will make it even easier for passengers to take advantage of Europe’s guaranteed lowest fares and no fuel surcharges.
“Our half price seat sale is the ideal weekend pick-me-up to lift the spirits and provides something to look forward to for 2009.”
The move follows airlines such as EasyJet and Virgin Atlantic cutting fares.
