Ryanair pilots suspend industrial action
Ryanair pilots have cancelled five further days of strikes planned for later this month.
The British Airline Pilots Association said it had decided to suspend industrial action after consulting members ‘to pave the way for meaningful negotiations’ with Ryanair.
These will take place at the conciliation service, ACAS, it said.
BALPA said that despite a strong turnout for strike action, pilot representatives had suspended the action to allow a breathing space ‘in the hope that constructive negotiations could get underway’.
So far, Ryanair insists that strikes by Ryanair, the most recent of which were earlier this week, have had no impact on its operations.
Yesterday, BALPA complained that Ryanair had warned pilots that they would lose their travel concessions for 12 months if they took part in any industrial action.
BALPA said today that it retains the option to set new strike dates should it be necessary.
Strikes were due to be held on September 21, 23, 25, 27 and 29.
Earlier this week, BALPA also called off a strike by British Airways pilots due to take place on September 27.
