Sandals Barbados delisted as quarantine hotel after alleged Covid breaches
Sandals Barbados Resort and Spa has been delisted as a designated quarantine hotel due to ‘several verified complaints of breaches of the Covid-19 protocols.’
Barbados police have also detained three tourists for questioning over protocol breaches.
"The Ministry of Health takes the issue of breaches of the Covid-19 protocols very seriously and will take similar action if other designated quarantine hotels and villas refuse to uphold the rules and regulations," a government statement said.
The resort loses its designated quarantine hotel status effective 5 January 2021.
The ministry advised all hotels to ‘immediately review the standard operating procedures with respect to the prevention and control of Covid-19.’
Sandals denies any Covid breach at the resort, and says none of its guests are being questioned by the police.
"At no time was any perceived breaches brought to our attention until we received a letter from the Chief Medical Officer, to which we have responded in writing refuting the assertions and requesting a further review," the company said in a statement to Barbados Today.
"Sandals further goes on record to refute the implication therein that there has been any issue involving the local police and our guests breaching protocol."
Barbados Today reports one of the tourists is being investigated for allegedly falsifying Covid-19 documentation.
Sandals Grenada recently closed again due to an outbreak of Covid-19 cases linked to the resort.
