Savannah offering commissionable packages

Thursday, 28 May, 2004 0

The Savannah Convention & Tourists Bureau this summer for the first time is offering commissionable packages on their web site, according to Andy Uhlig, director of tour and travel sales.

“These are specifically for travel agents, from July through August,” he said.

Savannah is more popular among visitors in the winter, but the warmer weather brings better hotel prices during the off-months, Mr Uhlig told TravelMole.

Savannah, founded in 1733, is the oldest city in Georgia and among the oldest in the US.

Mr Uhlig acknowledges there are no theme parks to draw visitors.

But more than 45 cultural attractions draw visitors who are in search of history, art, architecture and tradition. Tours depart from various points of the city and can focus on the book Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, Negro Heritage, ghosts and The Civil War. There are also river cruises and horse-drawn carriage tours.

The city is only a few minutes from the coast of Georgia, which is popular for water sports. Recreational boating or watersports, fishing, kayaking and dolphin tours are available.
