Savor food and fun in Fayetteville

Monday, 20 Jul, 2007 0

Every September, America’s hometown celebrates her diverse community with the International Folk Festival. Traditional musicians and dancers perform on six different stages. The streets are filled with artisans and crafts from a plethora of nations, and the delicious International Café has foods from around the world tantalizing passersby with savory aromas. The Parade of Nations is a visual feast showcasing many countries’ traditional clothes, from rustic and rural to elegant and refined.

The International Folk Festival goes into full swing on Sunday, September 30th. Recognized three years in a row as a Southeast Tourism Society Top 20 Event, this cultural extravaganza brings over 70,000 people to downtown Fayetteville. With over 30 different nationalities represented by active local groups, and a smorgasbord of international restaurants, our community has a lot to celebrate.

This will be the 29th year of the International Folk Festival. To sample just a taste of what’s to come, the host country of Panama will be the focal point of the Arts Council’s Fourth Friday gallery crawl in downtown Fayetteville on September 28th.

“Sure, you could go to Epcot, but you can experience the real thing right here,” says John Meroski, President and CEO of the Fayetteville Area Convention and Visitors Bureau. “Greater Fayetteville is a true melting pot, where folks from many different parts of the world have chosen to make this community their hometown.”
