Scalpers cashing in on Disneyland Shanghai demand

Friday, 11 Apr, 2016 0
The unprecedented demand for the grand opening of Shanghai Disneyland is resulting in rich pickings for ticket touts.

Tickets for the opening week which begins on June 16, were sold out within minutes and are now changing hands for several times the face value.

Tickets are being sold on the black market for more than 1,000 yuan with some being advertised at nearly 4,000 yuan.

The official price for the grand opening is the peak rate of 499 yuan (about $77).

Tickets sold through Disney or other official agents are also available at the off-peak rate of 370 yuan for quieter periods.

Some tickets are reportedly being advertised online at 3,899 yuan.

It is unclear whether guests who pay for tickets from scalpers will be able to gain entry due to measures Disney has in place to prevent fraudulent third party ticket sales.

"We take various measures to prevent ticket scalping and the sale of fraudulent tickets. Guests should only purchase tickets from authorized official channels," the resort said.

Visitors are only permitted to buy a maximum of five tickets and are provided with a unique ID number which should be presented along with the identification of the individual who made the ticket booking.
