Seattle offering secure airport access to non- ticketed visitors

Sunday, 09 Nov, 2018 0

For the first time since 9/11, a new program will allow non-fliers the opportunity to venture past airport screening and into the departure lounges of Seattle Airport.

Local residents will be able to see off loved ones from inside the departure terminal without a ticket.

Sea-Tac airport management says ‘some of the airport’s best features’ lie beyond TSA security screening and are now accessible to non-fliers, such as restaurants, shops, live musicians and views of the runway.

"Remember the days when you could wave goodbye at the airport gate as someone boarded a plane? Or you could welcome them with a hug at the gate of a domestic flight? Or grab a bite to eat with a traveler on a layover? Now that opportunity is back," a Port of Seattle news release said.

Initially a pilot program, the SEA Visitor Pass will operate until December 14, and could become permanent if there is sufficient interest.

The Port said it will be limited to 50 passengers a day.

Those interested must apply online by 1.30pm the day before the intended visit and TSA approval will be confirmed to the applicant by midnight the day before.

Non-ticketed visitors will be able to meet loved ones at the gate but only for domestic arrivals.

All visitors approved will still be required to go through security screening like a regular air traveler.

Pittsburgh Airport became the first in the country to introduce a similar program recently
