Second adventure travel summit scheduled

In a further effort to bring together what has been called a “fragmented” industry, The Adventure Travel Trade Association (ATTA) announced its second annual Summit next fall.

Many participants of the 2005 Summit, the first of its kind, called it “long overdue,” according to ATTA.

The organization expects to attract more global representation and participation in the second effort.

Studies show adventure travel is a fast-growing industry. One survey last year round 92% of adventure travelers planned the same number of vacations this year or more as in previous years.

More than half of the “adventure” travelers take two to three vacations a year.

“As a community, we’ve just begun to tap into the potential of the adventure travel market,” said ATTA President Shannon Stowell.

He said the industry was now concentrating on elements that lead to “positive, sustainable bottom line results.”

The summit provides a global networking platform for a diverse array of executives and decision makers who gather to collaborate on matters of mutual interest and concern.

Attendees include tour operators, destination marketing organizations, tourism boards, transportation companies and travel agencies, among others.

Initial sponsors of the summit include National Geographic Adventure Magazine, ExOfficio, Eagle Creek and Veramonte Wines. New sponsorship proposals are being reviewed by the ATTA.

The second annual Adventure Travel World Summit will be held on October 19, 20 and 21 at the Bell Harbor International Conference Center on Elliott Bay.
