Second hijack attempt in 10 days
A hijack attempt on an Air Seychelles flight has been thwarted by cabin crew.
A spokesperson from Air Seychelles has confirmed that the incident occurred on a flight from Bombay to the Seychelles, flying via the Maldives. The aircraft has landed in Malé, capital of the Maldives. The airline will not release further details at this stage.
Reuters reported that cabin crew overpowered a passenger armed with a knife when he tried to enter the cockpit.
The incident occurs at a time when the aviation industry is on high alert, just two days before the anniversary of the 11 September terrorist attacks, and ten days after a man was charged with attempting to hijack a Ryanair flight from Stockholm to London.
