Security stepped up in Red Sea resort
Security has been tightened in the Red Sea resort of Hurghada amid increased fears of attacks on foreign tourists.
As Egypt’s elections reach the second and final day, Egyptian military have been positioned in and around Hurghada international airport and roadblocks have been put in place in the town to monitor areas frequented by tourists.
According to the UK Foreign Office, checkpoints are in operation around Hurghada and throughout the Red Sea Governorate.
Meanwhile, enhanced security measures are still in place to protect resorts in Sharm el Sheikh.
"Routine security checks are being performed on entry into the airport and the police are carrying out vehicle checks in Sharm el-Sheikh," said the Foreign Office.
The FCO believes terrorists continue to plan attacks against protestors and the Egyptian authorities and these attacks could be "indiscriminate and could occur without prior warning".
Unofficial results of the elections are expected hours after polls close at 20:00 (18:00 GMT) tonight.
More than 250,000 members of the security forces have been drafted in to guard polling stations across Egypt amid fears of attacks by militants.
