See the biggest hole in North America!

Friday, 13 Mar, 2007 0

Covering 20,000 square miles and four times larger and deeper than the United States’ Grand Canyon, Mexico’s Copper Canyon system is a masterpiece of nature, located in the remote and rustic north of Mexico and you can see its breathtaking vistas and experience the ancient culture of the area and more on Trafalgar’s nine-day Mexico’s Copper Canyon holiday.

Explore Phoenix, San Carlos, Alamos, El Fuerte, Copper Canyon/Posada Barracas and Casas Grandes with your professional Tour Director who will unlock all of the fascinating local secrets of these destinations.

As a country rich in contrasts, you’ll experience desert and coastal landscapes in the first few days of your tour. Travel into the Sonoran Desert for lunch, then towards the crystal blue Sea of Cortez, where you’ll enjoy oceanfront resort accommodation before embarking on a scenic cruise the following day.

Discover the ancient culture of the region on a tour of colonial Alamos with a local guide to meet with Mayo Indians. Your experience with the locals doesn’t end here though, as you’ll also spend two nights in the Copper Canyon, with time to discover the crafts and folklore of the Tarahumara Indians.  Towards the end of your holiday visit the Chichimeca archaeological site of Paquime.

One of the highlights of this holiday is a ride on the “Train in the Sky” into the vast Copper Canyon, travelling along dramatic Septentrion and Urique Canyons. Taking nearly 100 years to build, you’ll travel from sea level to 7,500 ft in less than 150 miles, passing through spectacular tunnels and bridges. It is a spectacular experience, which has led many to call this the most scenic rail journey on the continent. To ensure you have time to soak up the beauty and discover the history of the Copper Canyon, you’ll spend two days in the region.

Mexico’s Copper Canyon is priced from $2150 per person, twin share (land only) and includes accommodation in first-class hotels, touring by luxury air-conditioned coach, first class train journey into the Copper Canyon, the services of a professional tour director and driver, arrival and departure transfers and many meals including full breakfast daily.

Regular departures are available year-round.
