Severe weather causes flight delays in south central states
Severe weather is affecting travel in the south central states, with Southwest Airlines canceling 80 flights today.
The airline said 42 flights have been canceled out of Dallas Love Field, while Little Rock and Memphis have also been affected.
In a statement, Southwest said it is "carefully tracking a wintry storm system moving across the south central states and is monitoring changing conditions to modify our operational plan as necessary".
The statement added: "Our main focus is on the safety of our customers and employees, while making sure our flights operate safely to their destinations."
Snow and ice overnight in the Dallas/Fort Worth region have created "treacherous travel conditions", according to accweather.com.
European travelers are also facing flight delays due to severe weather.
In the UK, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen were all hit by delays and cancelations yesterday and authorities warn of further disruption today.
British Airways and Lufthansa are warning of flight disruption, while KLM and KLM Cityhopper have cancelled a "significant number" of flights within Europe.
The storm has caused chaos to rail and road transport across the UK and northern Europe and has claimed three lives.
Flood alerts are in place across England and Wales and thousands are being evacuated from their homes in Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk.
