Ships ahoy in Bali
Bali saw a record number of cruise ships visit the island last year – 35 berthed at the Benoa port compared to 27 in 2010 and 15 in 2009.

The first of 38 cruise ships scheduled to berth in Bali in 2012, the Legend of the Seas, operated by Miami-based Royal Caribbean, is due this month.

The 264-metre-long ship was scheduled to call last year but cancelled because of a lack of berthing water depth at Benoa.

Bali is constructing a deep-water port for cruise ships in Tanah Ampo, but the project has stopped because of funding problems. It is hoped that work on the new port will resume shortly.
