SilverNeedle reveals hotel growth targets
SilverNeedle Hospitality, which recently acquired Australia-based Touraust Corporation’s Constellation Hotels business, has set itself ambitious expansion targets.
The Constellation portfolio includes more than 60 hotels, resorts and apartment in Australia and New Zealand under the Grand Chifley Hotels, Chifley Hotels, Australis Hotels and Resorts, Country Comfort Hotels and Motels and Sundowner Motor Inns brands.
SilverNeedle Hospitality will take some of the Constellation brands into Asia while at the same time launching its own urban brand, NEXT Hotels into the four to four-and-a-half star segment, and NEXT Resorts into the family resort segment.
President Bill Black, and senior vice president of operations, Jonathon Wooller, were in Sydney this week to launch the SilverNeedle corporate brand.
The NEXT Hotel model is based on a 100 – 250 room property for Asia’s business travellers that offers a combination of service and self-service.
Wooller said the model replaces a number of elements from a traditional hotel set up, such as multiple restaurants and large banqueting facilities, with neighbourhood restaurants that are run by local vendors.
The strategy is both to engage the local community and commercialise public areas within the hotel, said Wooller, who led Constellation Hotels for the last six years.
The company is targeting 10,000 rooms in 5-8 years, 2,000 of which would be owned by Silver Needle Hospitality. The remainder would be managed.
