Singapore Airlines grounds Dreamliners over engine trouble

Thursday, 03 Apr, 2019 0

Singapore Airlines has grounded two 787-10 Dreamliner jets due to safety issues with their Rolls-Royce Trent engines.

The problem was discovered during routine maintenance, SIA said.

"During recent routine inspections of Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 TEN engines on Singapore Airlines’ Boeing 787-10 fleet, premature blade deterioration was found on some engines," a statement said.

In consultation with engine maker Rolls Royce, the airline has completed inspections on all engines in its mainline fleet.

Two planes were grounded pending engine replacements it said.

That means some disruption as smaller aircraft will be deployed on the affected flights.

It is ‘actively getting in touch with customers; to re-accommodate them’.

Singapore Airlines’ Dreamliners serve 11 international destinations including Bangkok, Bali-Denpasar, Manila, New Delhi, Osaka, and Perth.
