Singapore Changi to resume transit flights in June
Singapore will allow the resumption of transit traffic at Changi Airport from early June.
Transit facilities will restart gradually from June 2 the country’s aviation regulator said.
General transit was halted in March although it is permitted for foreign passengers on repatriation flights organised by their governments.
"This is part of Singapore’s strategy to gradually re-open air transport to meet the needs of our economy and our people, whilst ensuring sufficient safeguards for safe travel," the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore said.
CAAS is asking airlines to submit applications for transfer lanes at the airport and will be reviewed based on air safety and new health protocols.
Singapore Changi is a key transit hub for connecting regional and inter-continental flights.
It handled only 25,200 passenger movements last month, which is down 99.5%.
The airport will allow airlines to restart transit services gradually and there will be strict measures in place to ensure all transit passengers are contained within designated areas and do not mix with other passengers.
