Singapore extend closures of casinos
Singapore’s two casino resorts will stay closed even as the city-state begins reopening businesses next week.
Singapore’s Casino Regulatory Authority confirmed casinos will remain closed until further notice.
Phase one of Singapore’s reopening begins on June 2 which will see many businesses resume services.
Resorts World Sentosa and Marina Bay Sands will not be among them.
"The government will further monitor and assess developments in the Covid-19 situation to determine the appropriate timelines for the gradual resumption of more businesses and activities, including casinos," the Casino Regulatory Authority said.
From June 2, business activities that do not have a high risk of virus transmission may resume operations such as some restaurants, although dining-in service is not allowed just yet.
The reopening covers an estimated 75% of the economy.
However conventional hotels are not included in the first phase either.
"With the phased approach, we are ready to help our workers go back to work and allow businesses to resume in a safe way," said a government official.
"We are working closely with the authorities on our reopening schedule, in line with Singapore’s gradual resumption of business activities in phases," Marina Bay Sands said.
