Singapore to fly daily to Adelaide
Singapore Airlines is to become the first international carrier to offer daily flights to Adelaide.
The airline will increase its number of direct weekly flights to Adelaide from five to seven, as of March 27.
SA Tourism Minister Jane Lomax-Smith said the extra flights would create an extra 33,600 international seats into Adelaide each year and more than double what was offered in 2003.
“This dramatic increase in flights signals the international airline’s confidence in the future of the state’s tourism industry,” she said.
“Flights in and out of Adelaide have already risen sharply across the board in recent years, with seats on international flights growing more than 40 percent. Last financial year (2004-05) a record 5.31 million passengers passed through Adelaide Airport.”
Ms Lomax-Smith said the increase in international flights is set to continue this year, with Air New Zealand beginning direct Auckland-Adelaide flights in March, while Jetstar would add to its domestic services to Adelaide.
