Sixt chooses Fort Lauderdale for US HQ
European car rental group Sixt has promised to create 300 jobs in Fort Lauderdale with a new North American headquarters coming to the city.
It represents a $10.4 million investment in the local economy, it said, after picking Fort Lauderdale over other potential sites in Georgia, Texas and California.
"This expansion will create 300 new jobs for families in South Florida and is a major win for our state. Over the past six and a half years, we have worked to cut taxes and make our state more business friendly so Florida can outcompete other locations for new opportunities," said Florida governor Rick Scott.
Sixt Rent-a-Car has a presence in more than 2,000 locations in 100 countries and this week opened a new office at San Diego International Airport.
It is the fifth largest car rental operator in the US.
"We looked at a number of locations in carefully selecting our new US headquarters, and, at the end of our search Florida clearly came out on top. The state went out of its way to work with us, encouraging Sixt to plant even deeper roots here. We were extremely pleased with the process, and are proud to be opening our national headquarters here," said Sebastian Birkel, Sixt North America co-president.
Sixt opened its first ever location at Miami Airport in 2011.
Miami and nearby Fort Lauderdale are the company’s big US markets.
