Sixteen remain missing after Red Sea tourist boat capsizes
Sixteen people remain missing at sea, of which at least two are thought to be British nationals, following the capsizing of a vessel in the Red Sea.
The tourist boat Sea Story sank near tourist town Marsa Alam and was carrying 44 people.
A naval search and rescue team is ‘intensifying its efforts’ to locate the missing people.
Rescue teams had already rescued 28 people from the 34-metre-long tourist boat with assistance from a cruise ship.
Bad weather is thought to be the cause.
A ‘high sea wave’ hit the boat which led to it capsizing in ‘about five minutes’, said Amr Hanafi, the local governor.
Some guests were in cabins at the time and likely were unable to get out, the governor posted on Facebook.
The boat was carrying several foreign nationals including those from the US, China, and multiple EU countries.
