Snow blankets blaze-hit state
An extreme change in California’s weather has put paid to the wildfires that were causing chaos in the state – and left it blanketed in snow.
Just a week after the inferno left more than 20 people dead, with thousands of homes destroyed and nearly a million acres of land affected, the mountains have been coated in a blanket of snow, and cool, moist air has helped to put out the remaining blazes.
The Daily Express reports that some 27,000 people are still displaced from their homes, but that number is a massive improvement on the situation a week ago, when more than 80,000 had been forced to leave their homes.
More snow and rain is being forecast for the state in the coming few days.
