Snowy Mountains bike fest announced for February
One of Australia’s most challenging mountain bike races has been announced for 21 and 22 February in the New South Wales Snowy Mountains.
The 2015 Snowies Mountain Bike Festival charts a 125km-course over rocky mountain terrain with competitors racing over four different stages in two days.
It kicks off with a 5.5km time trial followed by the ‘Summit Smash’ on stage 2 which sees riders climbing over 21km from Lake Crackenback Resort & Spa to Thredbo Resort.
The third stage is a high-speed descent on the same route followed by a long 75km cross country race to the finish line.
The event is rated one of Australia’s most demanding mountain bike races but according to Lake Crackenback Resort & Spa General Manager Anthony Cleary, there are options for less dedicated riders to take part.
"Those looking for a slightly less demanding challenge can take part in teams of two or three riders and instead of competing in all four stages, riders can either take part in the 75km cross-country marathon or a shorter 30km cross-country ride on 22 February," Cleary said.
The Mountain Bike Festival is supported by the NSW Government through its tourism agency Destination NSW.
Solo riders will be competing for a prize purse of $10,000.
