Song planning 33% expansion
The US’s highly competitive market will be adding another low-fare carrier this summer as Delta Air Lines’ Song announced an expanded schedule.
Song plans a 33% expansion of its fleet.
Song will go from flying 36 757s to flying 48 of the aircraft beginning in May.
The airline will be adding 36 new flights through 2 September, brining their daily departures to 176.
New York JFK to Los Angeles service starting 1 May will have seven daily roundtrips in place by 18 June, according to the airline.
JFK-Francisco service starting 4 July will rise to five daily flights by 1 September.
JFK-Seattle service starting 4 July will go to three daily flights by 2 September.
Song is also adding service to the Caribbean, including San Juan and Aruba.
Song has also named Joanne Smith president. She is a 25-year aviation industry veteran and was instrumental in the creation and launch of Song.
Meanwhile the DOT has approved new low-cost carrier SkyLink Airways, based in Virginia (read today’s related story).
